POPAI Awards Dinner

Friday, November 6th, 2009

As a POPAI Awards Dinner ‘virgin’, I was looking forward eagerly to seeing the best Point of Purchase designs our industry has to offer and I was not disappointed.  (POPAI for those of you who don’t know is our trade body, Point of Purchase Advertising International).

Attended by the biggest names in our industry (both suppliers and their clients), all in black tie and posh frocks, this was arguably the premier event in the POS calendar.

The evening was hosted by Hugh Dennis, one of the best comedians on UK TV at the moment, who introduced some truly innovative and exciting Point of Purchase products in more than 20 different categories.

We got the bronze in our category with our Neutrogena Power Wave Cleanser FSDU.  Well done everybody, this is a real achievement when you see what we were up against!  We were in the ‘Skincare, Health & Beauty Permanent’ category, which was won by a wonderful in-store display produced by Kleerex on behalf of Boots, with Hawaiian Tropic Beach by Display Plan awarded the silver.

Well the challenge is now on for TPI to win a gold or two next year. We are a company of talented, creative and committed people, who definitely have what it takes to give the big boys a real run for their money.  I’m preparing my acceptance speech already and I promise I won’t embarrass you all by doing a ‘Gwyneth Paltrow’!

UK Managing Director.

Nominations and Awards…

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

Yes it that time of year again when the ‘best of the best’ get suited and
booted prior to presenting themselves at the door of the various print

award ceremonies.

For any company to gain a nomination in the various annual print awards, speaks very highly of the skill and care which that company takes during its creative design and production processes. It is worth noting that these processes are often completed against a background of tight deadlines and time pressures….
Success in winning these awards not only serves as a vital sales aid for print production companies but equally are a major encouragement to staff within their companies to keep and increase pride in their work.

TPI thrives on the presumption that ‘if a job is worth doing at all, it is worth doing well’ hence we for one, look forward to this time of year. Individual pieces which we have worked hard to produce for our valued customers throughout the year are hand picked for submission with the aim of being nominated and hopefully bringing home the much sought after symbol of excellence – the Award itself. Two of the more prestigious awards at international and national level are mentioned below.

The POPAI Awards – otherwise known as ‘Point of Purchase Advertising International’ Awards for those of us who are not fully up to speed with the vast, varied and often confusing print lingo and abbreviations, recognizes excellence in the P-O-P market, a market worth in excess of £1bn per annum in the UK and Ireland. This year TPI proudly brought home the bronze for our Neutrogena Power Wave FSDU nomination which was previously referenced as a nominee on this blog dated August 28th 2009.

Wave-UnitOpen to entries from both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland the Irish Print Awards are a key recognition of quality in the printing of newspapers, magazines, books and commercial print work. This year we have three TPI engineered and produced pieces that have been nominated for the individual category awards.

On Friday 20th November the winners will be announced in what is one of Ireland’s most competitive industries. In the meantime we will continue to do what we do best – designing and producing clever customer communication pieces for our customers who rely heavily on us to pull it out of the bag for them when required. In our eyes their continued custom is the real prize!
